Dr. Karen Richter-Hall, DVM
Veterinarian & Owner
Dr. Karen Richter-Hall founded Pownal Veterinary Hospital with a clear vision: to provide thoughtful, thorough veterinary care in a setting where pets and their owners feel supported. A Maine native, she graduated from Simmons College with a degree in Biology before earning her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Tufts University.
After practicing throughout the greater Portland area, she returned to her hometown of Pownal to open her own clinic in 2008. Her experience spans both routine care and more complex medical conditions, with a particular interest in pain management and acupuncture, for which she became certified through the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society.
Dr. Richter-Hall is known for her calm, attentive approach and for taking the time to truly connect with clients. She values building long-term relationships and helping pet owners feel confident and informed in every decision they make. Karen’s favorite flowers are peonies.

Ann Soule
Practice Manager & Veterinary Assistant
Ann Soule has been an essential part of Pownal Veterinary Hospital since 2011, helping create the welcoming, community-focused environment that clients value. Raised in Freeport in a family of farmers and fishermen, she brings a strong connection to the local community and a practical understanding of animal care.
Ann lives in Pownal with her family and a wide variety of animals, including dogs, a cat, and farm animals. Her experience, organization, and friendly presence help ensure each visit runs smoothly while making clients feel comfortable and supported. Ann’s favorite flowers are sunflowers.

Denise Hodgkins
Veterinary Team Member
Denise joined the Pownal Veterinary Hospital team in 2021 with extensive experience in the veterinary field. She contributes to patient care and helps ensure each visit is organized and efficient for both pets and their owners.
Outside the clinic, Denise enjoys hiking, outdoor activities, and caring for her animals, including dogs and even a large beekeeping operation—bringing a unique and hands-on perspective to her work. Denise’s favorite flowers are lilacs.

Mary Haley
Veterinary Assistant
Mary Haley joined Pownal Veterinary Hospital in 2024 after graduating from the University of New England with a degree in Animal Behavior. She supports patient care and helps create a comfortable experience for pets during visits.
Her background in animal behavior allows her to approach each patient thoughtfully, helping reduce stress and improve the overall experience for both pets and their owners. Mary’s favorite flowers are sunflowers.

Amanda
Client Service Representative
Amanda joined Pownal Veterinary Hospital in July 2022. She enjoys spending time with her family, at their camp, and family vacations in warmer climates. Amanda has two dogs and two guinea pigs at home. Amanda’s favorite flowers are daisies.
